There are a number of causes for discolouration of teeth.
Surface discolouration can be caused by many things, such as tea, coffee, smoking or red wine. These stains can be removed by a thorough professional cleaning of your teeth by your dentist.
Tooth colour can also be affected by other causes such as ageing or trauma (and subsequent nerve death) or the taking of tetracycline antibiotics when the teeth were developing.
There are many ways to overcome the problem of discoloured teeth. Possible treatments include teeth whitening and or veneers. In cases where there is not much tooth structure remaining, a crown is recommended.
